Students at Yaakoosge Daakahidi Alternative High School are participating in this week's First Friday with murals, carvings, digital art, drama and more.
Students are working under local painter Tion Kasnick's supervision to paint a permanent mural of Juneau and Southeast Alaska to the open sea along a row of lockers, creating mandalas symbolizing their own life experiences, and some of those who won't be able to attend Friday's event will even videotape a performance to play during the event, said Yaakoosge Principal Sarah Marino.
Students have been working under the supervision of guest artists Shona Strauser from Perseverance Theater, Kasnick, carver Duane Bosch, digital artists Pete Vraspir and Sally Eberhart, and others.
The Marie Drake Options building will be open between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided.
