Charles H. Parr
Seasonal Juneau resident Charles "Charlie'' H. Parr died March 23, 2000, in his home in Fairbanks.
He was born Jan. 19, 1918, in Mobile, Ala. A combat veteran of World War II and career infantry officer, Parr brought his family to Alaska when he retired in 1961. He was a scholar and an educator at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and had a long career in public service. He was a member of the Fairbanks assembly for two years and a state legislator for eight years. He also served on a number of statewide boards.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years Karen, sons Chip (and wife Sandy) of Juneau and Charlie (and wife Marilyn) of Fairbanks, daughter Maria Sample (and husband Roger) of South Carolina and daughter Perri Carlson (and husband Vern) of Fairbanks; brother Hubert Parr, Jr. of Florida, sister Marion Gooch of Alabama; nine grandchildren including Jesse, Kari and Suzanne Parr of Juneau, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. April 9 at Alaskaland Civic Center in Fairbanks.
