KODIAK - A Kodiak fisherman on a solo herring run apparently drowned near Sitka.

Scott Maechtle, 46, was last seen leaving the Sitka harbor in his skiff at 11:30 p.m. Friday, Sitka police said. He was returning to the 115-foot fishing vessel Alicia Jean moored offshore.

Maechtle's body was found Saturday afternoon on the rocks of the breakwater in the Sitka Sound.

The skiff was found adrift. Sitka police said Maechtle appeared to have drowned.
