Singers sought for festival of Christian, Islamic, Jewish music

Posted: Wednesday, March 31, 2004

A festival of Christian, Islamic and Jewish music is being planned for the evening of April 25, 2004 at St. Paul's Church, across from the Mendenhall Mall turn-off. Entitled "A Celebration of the Children of Abraham," it will emphasize common origins and beliefs of the three faiths and feature chants and canons -sometimes layered and sung simultaneously - with audience participation. Ann Boochever will direct, assisted by Linda Buckley, Eric McDowell and Sister Jill from the BVM Cathedral. Out-of-town soloists include Anchorage black gospel singer Shirley Staten and former Juneauite Rory Stitt. Keyboardists are Robert Cohen and Steve Nelson.

Singers of all ages are invited to join this experimental interfaith chorus.

Rehearsals are at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 4, at St. Paul's Church, 7 p.m. Monday, April 12, 1 p.m. Sunday, April 18, and at 1 p.m. the day of the performance.

Please help us celebrate the common heritage, music and friendship of these three faiths.
