Student artist in the spotlight: Natalie Thingvall

Grade: 5.

School: Mendenhall River Community School.

Art of choice: Guitar.

Experience: 3 years.

Favorite music: She likes to listen to hip-hop, R&B and punk rock music.

All in the family: Her brother also plays guitar.

Activities: She takes piano lessons and plays soccer.

Future plans: She will be performing sections of Bob Marley, Green Day and White Stripes at next week's folk festival. She also hopes to be able to write her own songs and someday make an album.

Wacky art: She believes a wacky artist would sing Barney songs on the bus to cheer people up.

You should know: She has a dog named Roxy. She believes in fairies and wishes she could be one. Her hero is Tinker Bell. She can speak Thai.

Her teacher, Kim Janelle, says: "Natalie is a talented musician. She shows incredible confidence and appears at ease when performing in front of large or small groups of people. Natalie makes playing the guitar look easy. She is modest about her ability. Music is an important part of Natalie's life. She sets high standards and is willing to work hard. Her creativity is reflected in her writing and other art forms, such as drawing. Natalie is a positive person and loves to laugh."
