Kudos to Sen. Ben Stevens for having some courage in solving Alaska's fiscal problems. As for the Democrats' response, they have suggested oil taxes, yet are they working in earnest (or believe their proposals are even possible?) or trying to score political points? A minority party needs to plan for the future while fiercely holding its ground. How will the Democrats respond to Stevens' proposal to "raid the permanant fund?" It seems that Stevens is risking his political career by doing what he believes is right. Are the Democrats willing to do the same?
Also, Gunal'cheesh (thank you) to the people who stood up against racism at the Capitol steps on March 21. The Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Youth Leadership Team is doing a wonderful job. Thanks, Dolores Cadiente, Don Bremner, Leilani Knight, Nancy Seamount and many others for leading positive change here in Juneau.
