JUNEAU - The Alaska Marine Highway System plans to make revisions to Southeast Alaska's sailing schedules while the fast ferry Fairweather undergoes engine part replacement repairs.
"There were several very difficult decisions and schedule juggling that took place in an effort to provide the best service to our customers," said Capt. John Falvey, General Manager, AMHS.
AMHS has been working on the revised schedule since Fairweather's delayed return was announced March 3. Fairweather's service will be replaced by the LeConte.
Falvey said the engines used in the Fairweather are not widely used worldwide. That scarce use means the company doesn't have all of the parts in stock. Therefore, many parts are being manufactured.
"Those passengers whose reservations are being impacted by this unavoidable change to the schedule are being contacted by AMHS reservations staff," Falvey said. "We intend to return Fairweather to service in early June."
The newly revised schedule is available at www.dot.state.ak.us/amhs/index.shtml, or by calling (800) 642-0066.
