Posted: Wednesday, April 02, 2003

Lifelong Juneau resident Jim E. Cashen, 40, died March 23, 2003, while on business in Las Vegas, Nev.

A fifth-generation Juneau resident, he was born Feb. 11, 1963, at St. Ann's Hospital in Juneau. He graduated from Juneau-Douglas High School in 1981. He was indentured into the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers apprenticeship in 1981 and became a journeyman power lineman in 1986. He worked as an IBEW power lineman throughout Alaska and the Lower 48 for 18 years.

In 1995, he and his business partners opened a Juneau nightclub called Hoochi's. In 2000, they remodeled the club and renamed it Marlintini's Lounge.

His family said he especially loved being a father, spending time with his family and friends, fishing and riding his Harley. They said as owner-manager of Marlintini's Lounge, he enjoyed spending his time making it a successful business.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, daughter Carly, parents Tom and Heather, brothers Greg and Steve, sister-in-law Barbara, and nieces Raven and Rachael. He also is survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins, all of whom he fondly called "Cashen cousins."

A celebration of his life will be held at Centennial Hall on Saturday, April 5, at 4:30 p.m.

The family requests that donations be made to a trust fund for his daughter Carly Cashen at Denali Alaska Credit Union, 9101 Glacier Highway, Juneau, Alaska 99801, or a charity of the donor's choice.
