Wendel graduates from Nuclear Power School
Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Matthew E. Wendel, son of Stacey L. Anderson of Juneau, recently graduated from the Navy's Nuclear Power School at Naval Nuclear Power Training Command, Goose Creek, S.C.
During the six-month course, Wendel received training in several technical fields related to the nuclear power program. Wendel studied mathematics and physics for three months in preparation for hands-on training later in the course. In the latter half of the course, Wendel spent hours becoming familiar with nuclear reactor theory and operations.
With his newly acquired knowledge, Wendel is prepared to operate a reactor on a nuclear powered submarine or aircraft carrier, ensuring the availability of propulsion and power.
Wendel is a 2002 graduate of Juneau-Douglas High School of Juneau and joined the Navy in November 2002.
