Angoon nips Yakutat behind Johnson's 39 points

Stephen Johnson poured in 39 points as Angoon nipped Yakutat 74-72 on Friday in the loser's bracket of the Juneau Lions Club Gold Medal Tournament intermediate bracket.

Sound off on the important issues at

Bailey Johnson scored 15 points, Adam Johnson 10 and Jay Johnson six. Loren Sands and Alper Johnson each tallied two points.

For Yakutat, Dusty Endicott tallied a team-high 24 points.

Ben Dunbar netted 16 points, Anthony Schmidt 14 points, Alin Vale eight, Mike Hills seven and Chris Karsunki three in the loss.

Yakutat led 41-40 at the half.

With the win, Angoon advanced to Saturday's championship game.


Juneau Imperial 69, Ketchikan 61

Juneau Imperial rallied from a 32-28 halftime deficit to defeat Ketchikan on Friday in an elimination game.

Lucy Potter led Juneau Imperial with 27 points while Jennifer Mannix added 20.

Also for Juneau, Kara Lockhart scored eight points, Rena Balzer six, Deb Barry four, Brooke Gunstrom three and Jocelyn Ramirez one.

Lalani Finau scored 25 points to lead Ketchikan.

Cindy Montgomery had 13 points, Christy Williams nine, Karen Lane eight, Janaie Ostrom four and Julie Enzueto two in defeat.


Hydaburg 87, Huna ANB 83

Hydaburg advanced to the Mighty B championship game on Friday with a win over Huna ANB.

Matt Carle scored 21 points to lead Hydaburg. George Peratovich poured in 17, Darren Edenshaw 16, Devin Edenshaw 15 and Archie Young 10. Sid Edenshaw posted eight points for victorious Hydaburg.

Travis Dybdahl netted a game-high 35 points to lead Huna ANB.

Nate Strong posted 33 points while James Wilson had six. Russell Dick scored five, and Kamal Lindoff and David Lindoff each scored two in defeat.


Kake LAB Masters 87, Juneau Hangar Green Team 68

Rudy Bean scored 29 points and knocked down four 3-pointers as Kake LAB Masters routed the Juneau Hangar Green Team on Friday.

Jay Peterson scored 15 points, Kip Howard and Lloyd Davis had 11 points each and Nick Davis posted seven in the win.

Also for Kake, Wayne Friday and Willis Cavanah each scored five points while Robert Jackson added four.

For Juneau, Craig Kahklen scored 16 points as Ethan Billings and Greg Huebschen each scored 12.

Phil Paramore and Mark Heard each netted eight, and Steve Houlihan hit a field goal in defeat for the Green Team.
