Youth American Bowling Alliance state tournament - The first sessions of the 22nd annual YABA state tournament take place Thursday through Sunday, April 3-6, at Channel Bowl in Juneau, with the second sessions scheduled for Saturday-Monday, April 26-28. Juneau Soccer Club/Yukon Soccer Association - Juneau-Whitehorse Exchange Indoor Soccer Tournament: Nine girls teams from Juneau, Ketchikan and Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, will compete in Juneau, while seven boys teams from Juneau and Whitehorse will meet in Whitehorse this week. There are three age divisions and the girls games will be played at Floyd Dryden and Dzantik'i Heeni middle schools. Games start Friday night and the championship games are on Sunday. Southeast Road Runners club - Glacier 10K and 1-Mile Runs: Meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Mendenhall Glacier parking lot for 10 a.m. race start. Courses are for a 10-kilometer (10K course is TAC-certified) and a 1-mile run for kids and others. This event is a fund-raiser for the Juneau-Douglas High School track and field team. Juneau-Douglas High School Dance Team annual dance clinic - The annual clinic is on Saturday, April 5, at the Juneau-Douglas High School main gym. A full-day session for grades 2-12 has registration at 8:30 a.m. ($30 fee) with a show for parents at 2:30 p.m. Two half-day sessions are available for grades K-1, with registration at 8 a.m. ($25 fee) and a show at 11 a.m. for the morning session and registration at 11:30 a.m. ($25 fee) and a show at 2:30 p.m. for the afternoon session. Participants will learn a hip-hop routine and will receive a clinic t-shirt and certificate. Lunch is included. MS Walk or Run (5K) - Registration for this fund-raising event is going on now, and team registration forms can be picked up at JRC/The Alaska Club, Foggy Mountain Shop or Mendenhall Auto. HoopTime basketball shooting clinic - Former Juneau-Douglas High School boys and girls basketball coach Jim Hamey will be teaching basketball players ages 10-18 various types of shots on Saturday and Sunday, April 19-20, at the Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School gym. The fee for this two-day clinic is $50 for members of the Amateur Athletic Union (all HoopTime players that have paid their fees are AAU members) or $62 for non-AAU members. There is a small fee for online registration. The clinic is offered on a first-come, first-served basis and only 80 players will be accepted. Water Safety Instructor course - This WSI course, cosponsored by the American Red Cross and the Augustus G. Brown Swimming Pool, takes place from April 22-May 17 at the pool and is for anybody wanting to be certified to teach swim lessons. All participants must be at least 17 years old and be able to pass a precourse skills test and possess a current FIT (Fundamentals of Instructor Training) certificate, although FIT classes will be offered in conjunction with the WSI course. There is a mandatory precourse session at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, and you should bring a swimsuit to the class for work in the pool. Course times are 5:30-9 p.m. on April 22, 24, 29, May 1, 6, 8, 13 and 15, and from 8:30 a.m. to noon on April 26 and May 17. Juneau-Douglas High School Swim Team/Glacier Swim Club wildlife cruise - This three-hour wildlife viewing cruise departs from the Allen Marine Tours dock at Statter Harbor in Auke Bay at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, and returns at 5 p.m. The cruise costs $50 per person, and the price includes food and refreshments.
