JUNEAU - Alaska Native Sisterhood Camp 2 will host the Southeast Native Women's Conference today through Saturday at the Alaska Native Brotherhood Hall in Juneau.
The conference will address suicide prevention and small business development, among other topics.
Laird Jones, of Tlingit-Haida Central Council, will present "Creating Financial Independence" on small business development and cottage industries. The presentation regarding suicide prevention will be given by Iva Greywolfe of Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium's Mount Edgecumbe Hospital.
The conference keynote speaker is Florence Sheakley, University of Alaska Southeast Tlingit language educator.
Ruth Demmert, cultural and Tlingit language teacher from Kake, will speak at the welcome dinner tonight.
An arts and craft sale will be held daily during the conference, and a healing ceremony will take place before conference attendees leave to return to their homes.
