A Jeep rolled over on Egan Drive on Thursday after the driver, who had allegedly been "huffing" from an aerosol can, lost control north of the Nugget Mall intersection, police said.
The two occupants of the 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee were ejected during the rollover, but were conscious, according to the Juneau Police Department.
Police reported that the driver, a 19-year old Juneau man, and passenger, a 16-year old Juneau girl, had allegedly been inhaling fumes from an aerosol can.
The driver lost control of the vehicle due to its speed and inhaling aerosol fumes, which acts as an intoxicant, police said.
The driver and passenger were treated by Capital City Fire and Rescue personnel at the scene and transported to Bartlett Regional Hospital for further evaluation, according to the police report.
A witness, who had been walking on a nearby trail, had observed the vehicle moving at an excessive speed, police said. The driver lost control and drove into a ditch, eventually rolling over at least twice. The witness said she had to move out of the way to keep from being struck by the vehicle as it drove along the ditch.
The Jeep sustained extensive damage, according to the report.
The police investigation continues and charges are pending.
