JUNEAU - Capital City Fire and Rescue quickly extinguished an attic fire Thursday morning at 141 Behrends Ave.
Fire Marshal Rich Etheridge said black smoke began pouring out of the home's attic as two engines and support crews arrive on scene. Firefighters vented the roof preventing the fire's spread and saved $300,00 in property, he said.
The residents were not home at the time and no injuries were reported fighting the fire. A neighbor called 911 to report the smoke, Etheridge said.
Damage to the home was estimated at $15,000 and was contained to an upper bathroom and the attic.
Etheridge said the cause is under investigation but authorities believe an electrical problem caused the blaze.
