JUNEAU - Locals are organizing a dinner fundraiser for disaster relief called Haiti Hour, which will take place at 5 p.m. Friday, April 9, at St. Ann's Hall, the Cathedral Parish Hall, 430 Fifth St.
The event will include appetizers, a red-beans-and-rice dinner (staples of the Haitian diet), an auction and informative presentations. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., and dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m.
Donations in any form are requested. Proceeds from the event will be given to four organizations, all of which have affiliates in Juneau and have staff working in Haiti: the American Red Cross, Catholic Relief Services, the Salvation Army and the United Way. The organizations will have representatives at the fundraiser to provide information on their recovery efforts and to receive donations.
Organizers welcome items that can be put up for auction, including gift certificates and desserts; food needed to prepare the meal (converted rice, red beans, vegetables, fruit, coffee and other beverages); food ready to serve such as appetizers and bread; and monetary donations. All donations will be recognized at the event and in the Juneau Empire.
Contact Cindy Hartmann Moore at 789-3259 or Kathee Hays at 364-2131 with any questions or to arrange a pick-up of your donation.
