ANCHORAGE - Anchorage police are warning homeowners about burglars who get into homes by stealing garage door openers from unlocked vehicles.

Police say it happened three times Thursday.,

A barking dog alerted an east Anchorage family to burglars in their garage at 3:45 a.m. The thieves stole a bench grinder.

Another east Anchorage homeowner heard his garage door open at about 4:00 a.m. His opener had been left in his truck.

Investigators spotted a nearby garage apparently opened by another stolen opener. Nothing was missing from the last two garages.

Police say that if an opener is stolen, the garage door should be deactivated and homeowners should buy a new transmitter and have the opener reprogrammed.
