Juneau's dedicated cross-country skiers were well represented March 24 at the Buckwheat Ski Classic in Skagway.

Juneau's Odin Brudie finished eighth out of 23 athletes in the men's 50-kilometer race with a time of three hours, 48 minutes and one second. Anchorage's Adam Verrier won the event in 3:02:12.0.
Douglas' Merry Ellefson placed second in the women's 50-kilometer classic
race. Her time of 3:49:31 was best among all local competitors in the 50K.
She finished defeated six other women the race. Whitehorse's Sara Nielsen
won the race in 3:38:44. In addition to posting a better time than six women in the 50K, Ellefson topped 16 men who competed in the 50K.
In the men's 25K, Auke Bay's Dan Fremgen finished in second place out of 53 competitors. Fremgen finished in 1:42:33.0 while Palmer's Mark Strabel won in 1:33:23.0.
Juneau's Greg Patz finished 12th in 1:53:57.0 while Will Metcalf of Juneau took 26th in 2:08.40.
Other Juneau finishers included Skip Elliott, who took 36th place in 2:22:51.0, Sam Skaggs, who placed 43rd in 2:44:14.0, and Gerry Kress, who finished in 46th place with a time of three hours even.
Douglas' Edeltrand Rodewald placed 17th out of 50 competitors in the women's 25K race with a time of 2:38:44.0.
Sarah Murray of Whitehorse, Yukon, won in 1:48:51.
Juneau's Amy Volz finished 21st in 2:40:59, Anne Johnson took 25th in 2:47:51, Kari Anderson placed 26th in 2:47:51.5, while Douglas' Julie Bednarski took 35th in 3:06:20.
Megan Ahieman of Juneau crossed the finish line in 36th place at 3:07:44 while Linda Mancuso placed 42nd in 3:49:22.
In the men's 10K, Juneau's John Staub was the highest local finisher. He placed 23rd out of 38 in 1:20:44. Whitehorse's Fabian Brook won in 39:39.
Juneau's Nancy Thomas finished 11th out of 51 skiers in the women's 10K with a time of 1:01:57. Whitehorse's Daliria Beatty won in 40:26.
Laura Bakes of Juneau took 15th in 1:06:32, Juneau's Stephanie Hoag placed 19th in 1:02:22 and Beth Potter finished 36th in 1:36:39. Also, Juneau's Martha Moore finished 38th in 1:48:20.
Johnny Elliott of Juneau took fifth out of 12 racers in the 10 and under boys 5K with a time of 40:59. Quebec's Aaron Fahey won in 26:40.
In Bend, Oregon, Juneau's Guy Thibodeau competed in the 2007 U.S. National Masters Cross Country Ski Championships.
Thibodeau placed third in the 15K Classic race in the M6 class for racers 59-years-old and younger on March 24. Thibodeau finished the course in 52:42.6. David Christopherson of St. Anthony, Minn., won in 48:20.8.
On March 25, Thibodeau took third in the 30K freestyle event in the M6 class with a time of 1:29:28.6. Christopherson won the event in 1:26:41.5.
