Posted: Sunday, April 05, 2009

JUNEAU - The Beatniks, a new English club at the University of Alaska Southeast, will host a poetry slam from 7 to 9 p.m. April 18 at the UAS Recreation Center. The public is welcomed and greatly encouraged to attend and participate in this and other Beatnik events.

The group began this year and was founded by two UAS English students, Kaleigh Lambert and Lacie Richardson. It currently has 10 members and two faculty advisors, Emily Wall and Nina Chordas. The purpose of this group is to host events open to the community and students where all can come and share their poetry, prose, art or music. Its goal is to hold monthly open mic nights at the UAS housing lodge intertwined with occasional poetry slams at the UAS recreational center and other fun events revolving around the arts.
