The Juneau Education Association hosted Read Across America at the Nugget Mall earlier this month. More than 200 community members celebrated reading at this fantastic annual event.
Thank you to these Juneau businesses and organizations: Bea Findlay and the Nugget Mall for providing the convenient venue, the Juneau Haines Reading Council for contributing the cake for everyone on Dr. Seuss' birthday, Friends of the Library Amazing Bookstore for donating many of the books that were given away, Hearthside Books for furnishing the beautiful balloon bouquets, and Jeff Brown and KTOO for interviewing Allison Smith on Juneau Afternoon.
Thank you to our wonderful and entertaining guest readers, including: Gov. Sarah Palin, Commissioner of Education and Early Development Larry LeDoux, Mayor Bruce Botelho, Assembly member Sarah Chambers, Fire Chief Eric Mohrmann, firefighter Charlie Blattner, retired teacher Donna Knight- Staton, JDHS Lettermen Erik Gross, Mark Enriquez, Alex Fagerstrom, Sean Bavard, and Corey Mahar.
Thank you to these Juneau teachers who facilitated the event: Allison Smith, Amy Jo Meiners, Ben Kriegmont, Carolyn Kelley, Julie Leary, Luann McVey, Paige Merriam, Paula Kalbrener , Richard Steele, Rocky Eddy, Sheryl Wittig. We also appreciate the contribution of decorations from Semra Lee's kindergarten class and student hostess Abby Meiners. But most importantly, we wish to thank all the parents and their children for taking the time to come out and celebrate such a remarkable and amazing cultural development that we often take for granted - reading.
