Kensington mine deception

Letter to the editor

Lower Slate Lake is not a stand-alone tailings disposal option for the Kensington mine. Coeur D'Alene Mines deliberately set the environmental review on a false track. The last two mine plans called for 30 million and 26 million tons of tailings storage capacity. Lower Slate Lake can only hold 4.5 million tons of tailings. This environmental impact statement is not legitimate. The alternatives were not developed using honest numbers. Meaningful comparison of project alternatives was deliberately precluded. This is a sham. We need to know where the rest of the tailings are going to go before the project is approved.
