ANCHORAGE - A 47-year-old Anchorage pilot is safe after his small plane crashed at Boulder Creek near the Matanuska Glacier.

Alaska State Troopers say Jeff Johnson's personal locator beacon was activated at 3:15 p.m. Saturday and reported to them about 15 minutes later, triggering a search.

A trooper helicopter left about an hour later.

Just after 5:30 p.m., Johnson called authorities on his cell phone. He confirmed that he had crashed and was not injured.

Johnson told troopers he had received a ride to a road from snowmobilers.

The trooper helicopter was 15 minutes from the crash site and continued to it to take pictures and confirm coordinates of the beacon.
