WASILLA - A man pulled over by the mayor of Houston north of Wasilla will not get the chance to confront the elected official in court.
Ron Johnson in January stopped in response to an unmarked car with police lights. Inside the BMW was Houston Mayor Roger Purcell, who claimed Johnson had passed him on a double-yellow line.
Johnson says the mayor had no business pulling people over and went to court Thursday to fight the ticket.
However neither the mayor nor the officer who issued the citation appeared.
Purcell says he was not notified that Johnson's court date had changed.
Johnson says he's glad to have the $160 ticket dismissed but he wanted a judge to decide if the mayor, who is not a certified law enforcement officer, has the right to write tickets.
