New church opens for Sunday services
A new church, Victory Foursquare Gospel Church, is now holding Sunday services at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. at 8404 Airport Blvd.
The church, led by Pastor Bryan Rosson, offers a blend of traditional and contemporary worship styles.
The Foursquare Church, started in the United States in the 1920s, has more than 26,000 churches worldwide, including ten in Alaska.

Teen pageant seeking applicants
The Miss Teen All American Pageant is accepting applications for its 22nd annual pageant Aug. 3-6 in Miami.
There is no talent competition and no experience necessary. Contestants are judged in evening gown, swimwear and personal interview categories. Participants must be age 13 thru 19 as of Aug. 1, never married and a legal resident of the U.S., its possessions or Canada. The application deadline is April 28.

Fund raiser provides household help
Auke Bay Cooperative Preschool is conducting its annual ``Dads on Duty'' fund raiser. The raffle winner will receive the help of six men for six hours to do projects around the house. The first prize winner also receives a $100 gift certificate from Don Abel Building Supplies.

Nominees for physicians award sought
The Alaska Academy of Family Physicians is seeking nominations for the 2000 Family Physician of the Year.
The award is based on outstanding service to patients and community, and devotion to family practice. Nominees must be members in good standing with the Alaska Academy of Family Physicians.
The Physician for Alaska will be honored during the Academy's Annual Scientific Assembly June 22-25, 2000 in Valdez. The winner will be nominated for the national Physician of the Year award.

Families for exchange students wanted
Host families for the Academic Year in America (AYA) international exchange student program are being sought.
AYA students range in age from 15 to 18, with local families asked to provide meals, a place to sleep and study, and to treat students like a member of the family. Each student has full medical insurance and spending money.

Local scouts to collect food Saturday
Local Boy Scouts will be collecting food Saturday in the Scouting For Food drive.
The Cub and Boy Scouts of Juneau hope to collect more than 10,000 pounds of food for local food bank distribution to the needy. Scouts will begin their walk and knock campaign of neighborhoods at 9:00 a.m.
The items needed the most are: canned vegetables and fruit, pasta, rice and other non-perishable food items. Please no glass jars or home-canned items.

The Home Builders Association of Juneau is accepting applications for their 2000 continuing education scholarship program. Two scholarships of $500 each will be awarded to students pursuing a two- or four-year study in vocational areas.

Dinner, auction to benefit AIDS research
A spaghetti feed and silent auction to benefit AIDS vaccine research is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Filipino Community Hall at 251 South Franklin St.
The event features Aimee Olejasz and Fabienne Peter-Contesse, who are participating in the Alaska AIDS Vaccine Ride from Fairbanks to Anchorage in August. They have each agreed to raise $3,900 for the ride.

Performing arts scholarship offered
A $500 scholarship is being offered to a local student interested in the performing arts.
A 3- to 5-minute VHS presentation from a school or community play, drama class, monologue or scene study will be used for judging. The winning student will also receive a VCR.
