• Juneau-Douglas High School Dance Team annual community show - The annual JDHS Dance Team Show will be held at 7 p.m. in the JDHS main gym. Tickets are $8 in advance at Hearthside Books or JDHS Activities Office, or $10 at the door; advance purchase is recommended.

Friday, April 11

• Southeast Showdown roughhouse boxing - The top fighters from Southeast Alaska compete in three weight classes with an eight-man bracket for each weight. Doors open at 6 p.m. at Alaska Native Brotherhood Hall, with boxing starting about 7 p.m. for a total of 15-20 fights in one night. Ringside table seats are $37, with general admission $27. MEETINGS / CLINICS / ANNOUNCEMENTS

• Raincountry Flyfishers monthly meeting - Meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, at Floyd Dryden Middle School. Michael Wilcox will present a slide show of his backpack fly fishing trips to Montana. • MS Walk or Run (5K) - Registration for this fund-raising event is going on now, and team registration forms can be picked up at JRC/The Alaska Club, Foggy Mountain Shop or Mendenhall Auto. This event takes place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, at the Brotherhood Bridge Parking Lot, with registration at 9 a.m. Groups of four or more can enter as teams. The run is untimed. • HoopTime basketball shooting clinic - Former Juneau-Douglas High School boys and girls basketball coach Jim Hamey will be teaching basketball players ages 10-18 various types of shots on Saturday and Sunday, April 19-20, at the Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School gym. The fee for this two-day clinic is $50 for members of the Amateur Athletic Union (all HoopTime players that have paid their fees are AAU members) or $62 for non-AAU members. There is a small fee for online registration. The clinic is offered on a first-come, first-served basis and only 80 players will be accepted. • Treadwell Arena closing - The last day for ice at the Treadwell Arena will be Sunday, April 27. The rink will be closed to skating during the summer, but will be used for other purposes. Info: Treadwell Arena manager Myiia Whistler, 586-0410.

• Adult soccer open gyms - Meet from 8-10 p.m. on Fridays (April 11) or from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Sundays (April 6 and 13) at Floyd Dryden Middle School gym. • Gastineau Channel Little League open gyms - Gym time for GCLL players is scheduled each Sunday through April from 1-4 p.m. at Auke Bay School. Players ages 8-9, as well as all new players, should arrive at 1 p.m. Players ages 10-12 should come at 2 p.m. Coaches will be available to supervise and assist players in a variety of activities and drills. • Treadwell Arena public open skates - Meet from 2:15-3:45 p.m. on Sundays (April 13, 20 and 27), meet from 5:15-6:15 p.m. on Sundays (April 20 and 27, no open skate on April 13), meet from 12:15-1:45 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (April 7, 9, 11, 14, 16, 18, 21, 23 and 25), meet from 5-6:30 p.m. on Mondays (April 7, 14 and 21), meet from 4:30-6 p.m. on Wednesdays (April 9, 16, 23), meet from 8-9:30 p.m. on Fridays (April 11, 18 and 25), meet from 1-2:30 p.m. on Saturdays (April 12, 19 and 26), and meet from 6:30-8 p.m. on Saturdays (April 12, 19 and 26) at the Treadwell Arena in Douglas. Open skate costs are $4 adult (age 18-64), $3 for youth (age 17-younger) and $2 for seniors (age 65-older), with skate rental available at $2 a pair. • 4-H cross-country running program - This year's program starts at 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, at the Mendenhall River School covered play area and will meet at 5 p.m. on Thursdays through the summer at various locations around Juneau. There will be two running clubs this year - one for elementary school students led by Jamie and John Bursell, and one for middle school students led by Craig Farrington. The two age groups will have different workouts, but will meet near the same place to make car-pooling easy for parents. The season will culminate with the Douglas Two-Miler run on July 4. There is a $6 enrollment fee to join the club, and registration will take place at the April 17 meeting. Info: Jim Douglas at the University of Alaska Cooperative Extension Office, 465-8749.

• Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation sports field-use registration - The Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation on Monday, April 7, will begin accepting reservations to use Dimond Park and Savikko Park during the summer. Reservations can be made to being using the fields starting on Friday, April 11, with a cost of $15 per hour, plus tax. Until April 21, reservations can only be made in person at the Parks and Rec office downtown at City Hall. Faxed and mailed reservation requests won't be taken until after April 21. • Badminton open gyms - Auke Bay: Meet from 8-10 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays at the Auke Bay Elementary School gymnasium. All levels of play available for teens through adults.
