Mat-Su assemblyman to run for lt. gov.

ANCHORAGE - A Matanuska-Susitna Borough assemblyman says he will seek the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor.

Mark Ewing of Wasilla filed for the office Monday.

Ewing tells KTUU-TV that he wants to run because none of the other candidates are backing the all-Alaska natural gas pipeline project.

Ewing says an all-Alaska line would be the best option for the state's future.

State Rep. Jay Ramras of Fairbanks is also listed as a Republican candidate on the Division of Elections Web site. Incumbent Craig Campbell, appointed after the resignation of Gov. Sarah Palin, announced last week he was withdrawing from the race.

Alaska's primary is in August.
