Mackey's injured dog back in Alaska

ANCHORAGE - Lance Mackey's main stud-dog Zorro is back in Alaska.

The Iditarod champion sent the dog to specialists in Washington after a smowmachiner hit him during the All-Alaska Sweepstakes last week.

Mackey said Zorro has a long recovery process that could take up to six months.

Mackey said his dog was "really kind of down and out when we first saw him at the vet," but when he walked in Zorro's tail started wagging and thumping on the floor.

Mackey said he is still working on a trail safety fund to make sure similar accidents don't happen again, adding that he already has some donors for the program.
