The upcoming April 10-11 track and field meet hosted by Sitka High School was cancelled due to wet and overall poor track conditions this week.
Sitka had previously delayed the meet on March 17, pushing the date back one week from the original April 3-4 weekend. That change in schedule came as a result of conflicts with the testing of high school sophomores. With no open weekends remaining in the season for Sitka's scheduled visitors, the meet is not expected to be rescheduled.
The Juneau-Douglas High School track and field team is now expected to open its season at Ketchikan April 17-18.
"Even the year we had 119 inches of snow, we were running by now," JDHS head coach Scott May said. "It just looks like this is going to be a bizarre, bizarre spring."
