In this sequence of photos from the Juneau-Douglas High School boys soccer team's 4-1 win over Kayhi last Saturday in Ketchikan, Crimson Bear senior Axel Thibodeau scores a goal against Kings goalie Jon Demmert.
Thibodeau received a pass from teammate Lee Sullivan, grounded it with his chest and got a shot past Demmert.
In the top photo, Thibodeau (17, at left) launches his shot past Demmert (partially blocked) as Juneau's Alex Sadighi looks on. In the center photo, Thibodeau and Demmert crash on the ground as the ball hits the back of the net and Sadighi starts to celebrate. Finally, in the bottom photo, Thibodeau celebrates the score as Demmert is slow to rise.
"I chipped it over to (Thibodeau), and he had a nice finish - one of the nicest finishes I've seen in high school soccer," Sullivan said.
"The goalie was coming out and I was coming in, and it looked like there was going to be a collision," Thibodeau said, but Demmert overcommitted and opened up the goal.
