George Haralovich expressed some obviously heartfelt negative views about the Juneau Community Charter School and fourth/fifth/sixth-grade teacher Sheila Keller, in the April 6 Empire. Blessedly, in our country people are free to have their own opinions, and to express them.
Our family's opinion is very different.
It would be hard to find a teacher more successful than Sheila in helping her students learn to think, to be patriotic (in the deepest sense), to recognize and appreciate freedom, and to use it responsibly.
It would be hard to find a school more successful than the charter school in helping its students understand what it means to be part of a community (their school, their town, their country, their world), including both the benefits and the responsibilities that entails.
