Generator failure causes power outage

JUNEAU - Parts of downtown, Douglas and the Valley lost power at about 7 p.m. Wednesday after a generator at the Snettisham hydroelectric site tripped off line, Alaska Electric Light and Power Co. reported.

AEL&P spokesman Scott Willis said the generator shut down because of a mechanical failure. The company turned on a backup generator and Willis said full power was restored to the city minutes after the outage. The company is looking into the cause of the generator failure.
