Walsh completes naval training program

Navy Ensign Richard B. Walsh, son of Sara and Murray Walsh of Juneau, recently received his commission as a naval officer after completing Officer Candidate School at Naval Aviation Schools Command, Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla.

During the 13-week training program, Walsh received extensive instruction on a variety of specialized subjects including navigation, ship handling, engineering, naval warfare and management.

In addition, Walsh and fellow OCS graduates received leadership training and instruction on the importance of the Navy's core values - honor, courage and commitment; and how their meaning impacts the personal and professional conduct of the men and women serving in the Navy around the world.

He is now attending Aviation Preflight Indoctrination in Pensacola. After finishing the six-week course, he will begin primary flight school.

Walsh is a 1995 graduate of Juneau-Douglas High School and a 1999 graduate of Winona State University, Minn., with a bachelor of science degree.

Hall graduates from air traffic controller school

Juneau resident and Navy Airman Recruit Christopher R. Hall, son of Karen and Robert Hall of Juneau, recently graduated from Air Traffic Controller School.

During the course at Naval Air Technical Training Center Memphis, Air Traffic Control School in Pensacola, Fla., students receive basic control tower and radar control training. Studies include aviation weather, flight data, ground and local control, basic radar, radio communications, navigation aids, flight planning, aeronautical charts and publications. Students also receive the technical training necessary to receive Federal Aviation Administration certification.

Hall is a 2000 graduate of Juneau-Douglas High School and joined the Navy in Feb. 2001.

Reynolds graduates from Army basic training

Army Spec. Lyman S. Reynoldson has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Knox, Ky.

During the training, the trainee received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid and Army history and traditions.

Reynoldson is a 1990 graduate of Juneau Douglas High School, and a 1996 graduate of the University of Alaska Southeast.
