Turkish singer Latif Bolat to perform at folk festival

Turkish singer and musician Latif Bolat is scheduled to perform at the 34th annual Alaska Folk Festival at 9:45 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at Centennial Hall.

Bolat is one of the most distinguished Turkish musicians outside of Turkey, having composed the soundtracks for "Young Indiana Jones" and the PBS documentary "Muhammad: Legacy of a Prophet."

Bolat performs as a singer and accompanies himself on the baglama, a traditional Turkish stringed instrument. Other traditional acoustic Turkish instruments he plays include the frame drum, ney flute, kanun and oud.

Turkish devotional poetry from 13th century mystics Rumi and Yunus Emre are sprinkled throughout his program. For more information, visit www.latifbolat.com.
