Police check reports of body in harbor

KODIAK - Kodiak police are investigating witness reports of a body in Saint Herman Harbor.

Police Chief T.C. Kamai says officers went to the Near Island harbor early Wednesday after witnesses reporting seeing a body of what was believed to be a white male in his early 20s.

Witnesses reported seeing no obvious signs of life, but the body sank before officers arrived.

Authorities, including an Alaska State Troopers dive team, conducted an extensive search of the harbor but didn't find a body.

Police are checking on people known to live on boats in the harbor. So far, Kamai says everyone appears to be accounted for, and there's been no missing person reports filed.

The investigation continues.
