Group home slated to reopen in Fairbanks

FAIRBANKS - The Fairbanks Community Behavioral Health Center in Fairbanks is reopening one of its group homes, with plans to open two others in coming months.

It's a sign that efforts to mend the troubled agency are starting to pay off after it closed four group homes after a bad year last year.

The future of the 30-year-old nonprofit came into question when it began losing government support and a client stabbed an employee to death.

The state launched an investigation of the center's safety practices, a group of employees formed a union and the center's executive director took early retirement.
