Air National Guard Airman Lary J. Martinez graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
He is the son of Dwayne Madden of Skagway.
Juneau residents Travis Monagle and Zachariah Owens were among more than 500 students to be named to the dean's list for the 2009 fall term at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, Ore. To qualify, students must achieve and maintain a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale while completing a minimum of 12 hours of graded coursework for the duration of the term.
Riebert Sterling Henderson, a 2003 graduate of Juneau-Douglas High School and 2007 graduate of St. John's University in Queens, N.Y., was selected as a candidate for the degree of Juris Doctor at Santa Clara University School of Law's Commencement Exercises to be held May 22. Henderson, the son of Remond and JoAnn Henderson, plans on taking the California Bar Exam in July.
