'Bloated' capital building budget includes more Juneau projects

Legislators on Friday continued to add more projects to a capital budget that critics had already called "bloated." New additions included many smaller projects added by individual legislators, resulted in an increase of $78 million to the $2.2 billion capital budget.

The newly added projects for Juneau include:

• Eagle Beach Public Use Cabins $50,000

• Cap. Com. Broadcasting Gavel-to-Gavel on Demand $97,000

• Catholic Community Services Bring the Kids Home $75,000

• Filipino Community Inc., Historic Building Repair $50,000

• Gastineau Human Services Safety and Security upgrades $39,500

• Juneau Coop. Christian Min. Glory Hole Shelter Roof $65,000

• Juneau Housing Trust-20th Century Theater Affordable Housing $55,000

• Perseverance Theatre-Facility Upgrades $45,000

• REACH, Inc. Asbestos Abatement $25,500

• Southeast Alaska Guidance Assn. - Eagle Valley Training Center $57,000

• Southeast Alaska Independent Living Lift Equipped Vehicles $9,700

• Southeast Regional Resource Center Technology Upgrade $63,700

• Territorial Sportsmen, Inc. Public Use Cabin Construction $60,000

• United Human Services of Southeast Alaska Nonprofit Center $120,000

• Juneau School District Technology Infrastructure Upgrades $26,000

• Juneau Arts and Cultural Center Electrical Upgrades $50,000

• Juneau School District Safety Upgrades $116,000
