Letter: Disaster averted

Posted: Thursday, April 12, 2001

We wish to express our gratitude to a number of noteworthy people who helped with the recent situation at a local church that could have been disastrous.

First, we applaud the law enforcement agencies that responded to the call. They handled the potentially fatal encounter in a professional manner, with personal concern for everyone involved. Fortunately, they were able to resolve the problem after an extended time of negotiation with no serious harm to anyone.

Second, the ministry present, both Pastor Nelson and special speaker Reverend Derrald Hilderbrand, performed their duties very well. They exemplified the care and concern a true shepherd has for the flock. Putting personal safety aside, they helped bring the crisis to a peaceful conclusion.

Finally, we thank all the people who joined in prayer for those at the church, the police and the person responsible. We appreciate all that took the time to seek God on the behalf of those who suffered through the ordeal.

God indeed hears and answers prayer. Let us continue to trust God for solutions to the circumstances that were revealed in an alarming way last Sunday night. Let faith, hope and love arise and increase during this Easter season to help heal the hurting.
