Juneau synchoronized swimmers Sarah Felix and Kimiko "Koko" Urata finished 15th out of 34 duet performances last week at the 2005 Speedo Junior Championships in Canton, Ohio.

Felix and Urata, both 15-year-old freshmen at Juneau-Douglas High School, posted a combined score of 75.428 points in the duet semifinals at the meet, held April 7-9. The duo competes for the Juneau Aurora Knights team.

Duos from powerhouse California teams dominated the duet standings, followed by squads from Seattle and Cincinnati, and then Juneau. The top score was 84.179.

On Thursday, swimmers competed in the figures round, where they had to perform four specific routines from a list of 10 possible choices. With their figures finishes, Felix and Urata qualified for Phase II of the two-year, four-phase process that selects the U.S. Junior National Team.

It's the second straight year that the Juneau duo has reached Phase II. Last fall, they advanced as far as Phase III.

Felix finished 48th and Urata was 64th out of 278 figures competitors.
