Co-op preschool accepts applications

The Juneau Co-op Preschool is accepting applications for the 2006-2007 school year for children ages 3 to 6.

The application deadline is May 5. Classes meet two or three mornings per week, September through May.

To arrange to observe a class or request an application, stop by the school from 9:30 a.m. to noon from April 17 to 21, or call 586-2625.

Celebrate Earth Day at Centennial Hall

Earth Day Festival 2006 will be celebrated from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, April 22 at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitors Center.

The theme of the festival is "You can make a difference," with emphasis on actions or lifestyles that allow individuals an opportunity to connect with and improve their environment. There will be activities for children, visits with Woodsy the Owl and speakers and musicians throughout the day.

Foundation seeks grant applicants

The Douglas-Dornan Foundation is accepting applications for grants for the 2006 grant cycle until June 1. The foundation offers grants to organizations that benefit and enhance the health, education and welfare of Southeast Alaskans.

The Douglas-Dornan Foundation was established in honor of Brian Douglas and Wythe Dornan upon their death in 1993. Grants are awarded to applicants who demonstrate sufficient need for services, equipment, activities or training that support children, youth, elders or other special-needs groups.

Examples of possible foundation financial support include, but are not limited to: non-profit groups, child-care institutions in Southeast Alaska, foster-parent programs and early childhood education programs; individuals within organizations, who are pursuing special training or education in any profession, to defray tuition, transportation or lodging expenses related to their education; or events or special services that enhance the overall quality of life, such as amateur sports, children's music and theater, and encourage participation through sponsorship of programs and events.

Free screenings at Juneau health fair

The Alaska Health Fair is hosting the a public health fair from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., April 21 and April 22 at Centennial Hall.

Free health screenings and lost-cost blood tests will be offered.

40-day dinner honors Dan Moreno Sr.

In memory of Dan Moreno Sr., a 40-day dinner will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, at the Alaska Native Brotherhood Hall in Sitka.

All friends and family are invited to attend.
