Kids from kindergarten through high school who have a hankering to dance ought to think about joining up with the Juneau-Douglas Dance Team this Saturday for the annual Kids Clinic.
The clinic is two things: a daylong celebration - and teaching - of dance, and a fund raiser for the team.
Parents should take their kindergartners and first-graders to the high school for registration for the morning session at 8 a.m. Saturday, and at 11:30 a.m. for the afternoon session. All other grades - through 12th - register at 8:30 a.m. for the day.
The kids will learn dance routines that last in the neighborhood of two minutes. The routines start with kindergartners' interpretations of the music and increase in difficulty with older grades until they include all-out jazz dance and hip-hop for high-schoolers, said dance team coach Jodi Barnes.
Thirty dollars covers the entire day and includes supervision and care by volunteers, with-it dance instruction by dance team members, lunch, T-shirts and certificates of accomplishment. Twenty-five dollars for a half-day.
And there'll be a show for parents at the end of the day.
No tuxes or prom dresses please. Wear comfortable dance or workout clothing and gym or dance shoes.
