This April, United Way of Southeast Alaska will celebrate National Volunteer Month and National Volunteer week, April 15-21. UWSEAK, along with the Juneau Volunteer Coordinators Cooperative Group, will be celebrating all community volunteers through a display of photos, quotes and "thank yous" at Nugget Mall.

United Way is also sponsoring a Spring Day of Caring for students at the University of Alaska Southeast on Saturday, April 21. Students will assist area nonprofits with projects such as painting at Gastineau Human Services and helping to serve a pancake breakfast at the Cedar Park Community Center for the Southeast Regional Resource Center.

Auke Bay Aztecas show Nahuatl legend

The Auke Bay Aztecas from Auke Bay Elementary School will show a production of the Aztec Nahuatl legend, "How Music Came to the World," at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, April 18 and 19, in the Auke Bay Elementary School gym.

Music teacher Ann Boochever wrote the musical play based on the book several years ago while she was teaching music in Connecticut and collaborating with Sirius Coyote, a performing group that specializes in traditional Mexican folk music. The choreography is by Pam Garcia and set design is by Amy Rose.
