JUNEAU - A 46-year-old Juneau man with previous DUI convictions was arrested Friday after witnesses said the vehicle he was driving was involved in an accident that sent two children to Bartlett Regional Hospital.
The children, ages 6 and 9, were treated in the hospital emergency room and released Friday, according to hospital staff.
Steven Thompson was charged with drunken driving after witnesses said the 1995 Ford he was driving left the scene of an accident in the 11500 block of Mendenhall Loop Road. Thompson was contacted at a residence on Brothers Avenue and subsequently arrested for driving under the influence.
The mother of the two children told police she was slowing her 1996 Dodge pickup to turn into her driveway when her vehicle was struck from behind and pushed into a tree. She said her youngest child lost consciousness in the accident.
Thompson was charged with felony driving under the influence due to prior convictions, three counts of assault in the third degree, and leaving the scene of an accident due to injuries, also a felony. He was lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center without bail, police said.
