Friday, April 14

• JDHS Dance Team Showtime - The Juneau-Douglas High School dance team will host their annual community show on two nights at the JDHS gym. The show will feature this season's dance routines and will include special guest performances by the famous Dad's Drill Team, as well as many other performers. Both shows start at 7 p.m. and doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door, if available. Friday-Saturday, April 14-15

• JDHS Boys and Girls Soccer - The Juneau-Douglas High School boys and girls soccer teams host West Valley, Ketchikan and Dimond this weekend at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park. On Friday, the JDHS boys take on West Balley at 9:15 a.m., the girls face West Valley at 11 a.m., the boys JV takes on Ketchikan at 12:45 p.m., Kayhi and West Valley boys play at 2:30 p.m. with the girls following at 4:30 p.m., JDHS boys faces Dimond varsity at 6:15 p.m. and JDHS girls take on Dimond at 8 p.m. On Saturday, the Dimond and West Valley boys play at noon, the JDHS girls take on West Valley at 1:45 p.m., the Dimond and Ketchikan boys play at 3:30 p.m., the JDHS girls JV takes on Kayhi at 5:15 p.m., the JDHS varsity girls play Kayhi at 7 p.m. followed by the JDHS boys and Ketchikan at 8:45 p.m.

• UAS/HoopTime/Fast Break Club Coaching Clinic - The University of Alaska Southeast, HoopTime and the Fast Break Club are presenting a middle school and high school coaching clinic featuring Gonzaga University's Jerry Krause from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the UAS Student Recreation Center in the Charles Gamble Jr.-Donald Sperl Joint Use Facility. Dinner will be served. There is no charge to attend, though preregistration is required. Clinic is limited to the first 40 coaches. Info: 796-6566 or rsvp@uas.alaska.edu.

Sunday, April 23

• Juneau Skating Club recital - The Juneau Skating Club will hold "A Sunday Matinee" at 3 p.m. at Treadwell Arena. The season-ending recital will feature Juneau's youth figure skaters. All students are invited to participate. There are 17 numbers planned, including solos from skaters and those who won medals in the JSC's first skating competition. • Juneau Soccer Club tryout schedule - Juneau youth interested in trying out for a Juneau Soccer Club competitive team should participate in the appropriate age group tryout. All JSC team tryouts will be held at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park.

• Capital City Soccer League schedule - The Capital City Soccer League will hold its open soccer schedule on Sundays at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. On Wednesday, May 24 and May 31, at Adair-Kennedy from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Info: CCSL, 523-9196.

• Juneau Youth Football League volunteers needed - The Juneau Youth Football League is looking for volunteers to fill coaching and board vacancies. If you are interested in working with some of Juneau's young athletes or help shape youth football in Juneau, this would be the position for you. • JDHS Softball Team spaghetti dinner: The Juneau-Douglas High School softball team will host their annual spaghetti feed dinner and dessert auction on Monday, April 24 at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at the ANB Hall. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for children 6-12 years old, $23 for a family and $5 for seniors. Tickets are available from the team or at the door. Info: Dave Massey, 321-1909

• Mount Jumbo preschool open gym - Preschool open gyms for children ages 1-6 and an adult parent or caregiver takes place from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Mondays, Tuesday, Thursdays and Fridays through April 28. There must be at least one adult present for every four kids. There is a $1 per child fee or punchcards for $10 or $50 can be bought at the gym, which is located at 909 4th St. in Douglas. Tricycles, mats, balls, a Little Tykes climber, building blocks and a kid-sized basketball hoop are available. Info: Myiia Whistler, 586-5226.

• Treadwell Arena schedule - People can sign up for hockey leagues, classes, camps and skating lessons for the fall season. Treadwell Arena can rent private ice to the public from noon to 6 p.m. Info: Treadwell Arena, 586-0410, or on the Web at http://www.juneau.org/parksrec/icerink/.

• Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation Wednesday and Saturday hikes - For updates on locations of Wednesday and Saturday group hikes, call the Juneau Parks and Recreation Hikes Hotline. Always remember to bring plenty of food and water, wear warm layers of clothing and proper footwear for the hike. No dogs or firearms are allowed. Wednesday hikes are limited to hikers 18 years of age or older. Saturday hikes are open to families, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
