FAIRBANKS - A political science major is the newest student representative on the University of Alaska's Board of Regents.
Gov. Sarah Palin appointed Ashton Compton to the seat.
Compton said one of the challenges she wants to tackle is the difficulty of the UA system has in recruiting and retaining students.
Raised in Fairbanks, Compton has worked for the state Legislature, serving as page and as assistant sergeant-at-arms in the House.
She will replace outgoing student representative William Andrews, who graduated from the University of Alaska Southeast last year.
