Bob Janes sprinkles the ashes of his wife, Willette Janes, from an antique whiskey bottle with his grandson, Robie Janes, 10, on Sunday at the Treadwell Ditch Dam along Williwaw Trail at Eaglecrest Ski Area. Willette helped start the development of the ski area in 1967, and was a volunteer national ski patroller for 31 years after Eaglecrest opened in 1975. A memorial bench was dedicated at the Eagle's Nest at the top of the Ptarmigan chairlift. More than 50 family and friends attended the ceremony. Willette died April 29, 2006.
