Soccer tryouts - The Juneau Soccer Club invites all youth, grades 5-10, to participate in competitive tryouts for summer tournament play. Tryouts are to be held at Adair Kennedy outdoor turf field and at the JDHS downtown turf field. Bring cleats, ball and water bottle to the time and date that fits your birth date. Players must attend at least one tryout to be considered, but players are strongly encouraged to attend all three sessions. The tryout fee is $25 with a signed JSC registration form. Heart of Hospice run/walk - 5k and 1-mile walk, 9 a.m., Twin Lakes. To benefit Hospice and Home Care of Juneau. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Volunteers to help set up at 8 a.m. appreciated. Bagels, donuts, juice, water and T-shirts available. For 18 and under, $15 pre-registration and $20 on race day; for 19 and older, $20 pre-registration and $25 on race day. Alaska Elite Cheer Clinic - Come join the competition team and coaches to learn basic cheerleading skills and an introduction to cheer stunting and tumbling at the Thunder Mountain High School main gym. The clinic includes an elite T-shirt, instruction and show for parents. Registration starts at 11:30 a.m., the clinic starts at Noon and the parent show starts at 3 p.m. Have an early lunch, be dressed to work out and bring a water bottle. Juneau Softball Rules Clinic - Clinic begins at 6:15 p.m. at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School. Each team must have a representative present to pick up the manager packet. Juneau Aurora Knights synchronized swimming show - Ten girls from the Juneau Aurora Knights synchronized swimming team will join 10 girls from Canada in its annual show from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Augustus Brown Swimming Pool. The show is free and open to the public.
Juneau Cheer Club offers elite snow removal - As long as there is snow, the Juneau Cheer Club will offer elite snow removal anywhere in Juneau from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends and 4 to 7 p.m. on weekdays. Classic Women's Soccer - Classic Women's Soccer is held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Fridays and began on Jan. 9. There will be 14 games. Cost is $49. Bring a light and dark shirt. Youth referees needed - Juneau Parks and Recreation is looking for referees for the upcoming youth basketball season. If you have any knowledge of the game of basketball, or have any experience playing or reffing, we would love to have your help. You will get paid for each game you referee. Adult soccer - Men's and women's competitive indoor soccer league at the Dimond Park Fieldhouse have room for four men's teams and four women's teams. Form your team now. Juneau Skating Club - The Juneau Skating Club's final session of the year begins March 6. Classes meet one time per week for six weeks. Evening masters swimming program - The Augustus Brown pool hosts a twice-weekly evening masters swimming program. The program will meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and is designed to promote and improve the physical and mental well-being of adults age 19 and older. Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation Wednesday and Saturday hikes - For updates on locations of Wednesday and Saturday group hikes, call the Juneau Parks and Rec Hikes Hotline. Bring plenty of food and water, and wear warm layers of clothing and proper footwear for the hike. No dogs or firearms allowed. Wednesday hikes are limited to hikers 18 years of age or older. Mount Jumbo Gym rentals - Parks and Recreation is accepting reservations for rentals of the Mount Jumbo Gym. The gym is open for rental from until Dec. 30. Zach Gordon Youth Center climbing wall - Climbing wall hours are 5-7 p.m. on Mondays, and 3:30-7 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The climbing wall can be used by people of all ages. Climbers age 20-younger climb free, while adults 21-older pay $5 to use the wall. Youth-adult interaction is encouraged, so an adult climbing with a youth pays no fee.
