Perseverance Theatre's 31st Mainstage Season closes with a new version of Hansel & Gretel featuring new music by Bob Banghart.
Perseverance Theatre's production is directed by Henning Hegland, a Norwegian director recently graduated from Columbia University. The libretto comes from David Pountney's natural, yet lyrical, translation of the original Brothers Grimm story. The all-Alaskan cast features Clara Weishahn and Katie Poor as Hansel and Gretel. Art Rotch and his wife, Akiko Nishijima Rotch, form the lighting and set design team, and the costume design is by 2010 NEA/TCG Design Fellow Oana Botez Ban. Musicians include Rob Cohen. Sergei Morosan, Riley Woodford, and Eric Chadwell.
Hansel & Gretel opens April 23 and run through May 30 with performances Thursday through Sunday at 7:30 p.m. and a matinee at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 2. There will be two pay-as-you-can preview performances on April 18 and 21, with additional pay-as-you-can performances on April 25, 29, and May 5. Tickets are $12 for all children under 12.
