FAIRBANKS - A Fairbanks assistant district attorney has been sentenced to eight days in jail after pleading guilty to driving under the influence of prescription drugs and third-degree assault.

Superior Court Judge Michael McConahy also sentenced David A. Carlson to three years of probation and several months of suspended time, as well as a mandatory $1,500 fine for the DUI conviction.

Carlson, who has worked as an assistant district attorney for about 2 ½ years, has been on indefinite leave without pay from the prosecutor's office since February.

He was arrested twice in one week in February. He was reportedly under the influence of an anti-anxiety drug at the time of both arrests.
