Center provides help via phone, Internet

Alaskans with questions about family-law court cases can get many answers on the Internet. But the state's Family Law Self-Help Center continues to help people on the telephone.

The toll-free number for all of Alaska outside the Anchorage local dialing area is (866) 279-0851.

Staff answers the telephones Mondays through Thursdays, beginning at 8:30 a.m. On Mondays and Wednesdays, the service is available until noon. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, it runs through 4:30 p.m., except for a break from noon to 1 p.m.

Staff attorney Stacey Marz said that when the lines are busy, a voice mail system takes messages during working hours.

Staff promises to get back to people within two days, but it often happens within two hours.

The Web site can be linked at www.state.ak.us/courts/selfhelp.htm.

Marz said that they will contact people with e-mail, but they must have dealt with them on the telephone first.
