State land sale offers remote cabin sites

Posted: Friday, April 16, 2010

ANCHORAGE - The Department of Natural Resources has announced that Alaska residents may apply for the 2010 Remote Recreational Cabin Sites land sale lottery beginning today.

The Remote Recreational Cabin Sites program follows the tradition of Alaska's stake-it-yourself land sales. It allows eligible Alaska residents to stake a parcel of state land in a designated staking area, lease the land until surveys and appraisals are complete, and then purchase the parcel at fair market value.

A total of 155 staking authorizations will be awarded to successful applicants. Four areas are being offered in the Northern and Southcentral Regions: Redlands, White Mountain, North Fork Big River and Ugak Bay.

The application period begins Friday, April 16 ends at 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 1.

The free 2010 brochure and application forms are available online at dnr.alaska.gov. The brochure can be mailed for a $2.00 postage and handling fee. There is a $25 filing fee and applications are accepted online, in person, by mail, or by fax.
